Health & Safety

There is no successful blast without a safe blast.

Safety is not an addition to the project plan — it is the foundation of it.

Every Active Blasting operation is governed by a comprehensive health and safety framework that meets and exceeds all South African regulatory requirements. From initial site assessment to post-blast inspection, safety is built into every step.

Zero harm

Safety first. Every project.

Every project is approached with careful consideration of workers, contractors, nearby communities, surrounding structures, equipment and infrastructure. Controlled blasting is specifically used in professional construction environments to reduce potential damage to surrounding rock mass, infrastructure and property and to minimise hazards such as flyrock and excessive vibration.

Our safety framework
01

Pre-blast risk assessment

Every site receives a formal risk assessment before any drilling or blasting commences. We identify proximity hazards, ground conditions, structural sensitivities, and exclusion zone requirements — and document them in a site-specific blast plan.

02

Certified blasting personnel

All blasters hold valid  certificates of competency. No uncertified personnel are permitted to handle, prepare, or initiate explosives on any Active Blasting site. Certification records are maintained and available for client inspection.

03

Explosive handling & storage

We comply fully with the Explosives Act and its regulations for the transportation, storage, and use of explosives. All vehicles are licensed, all magazines are registered, and all explosive inventories are tracked from receipt to detonation.

04

Exclusion zones & public safety

Blast exclusion zones are established and enforced on every site. Where operations are near public roads, residential areas, or live infrastructure, we implement additional controls including blast mats, vibration monitoring, and community notification.

05

Post-blast inspection

No personnel re-enter the blast zone until a qualified blaster has conducted a thorough post-blast inspection. All misfires are identified, recorded, and resolved in accordance with regulatory procedures before work resumes.

06

Incident reporting & continuous improvement

All incidents and near-misses are formally recorded and investigated. Findings feed directly into our operating procedures, ensuring that lessons are captured and applied across all future projects.
